First off, I want to thank the Lord for these hounds. If it wasn’t his will for me to have such fine dogs, all my efforts would be for naught.
At Blue Moon Rising Kennels our program is built around females. We breed for ability. Once one of our females proves herself in the woods, she will be bred to the absolute top studs in the country. We use more than fancy ads and pedigrees when selecting a stud to use. Each female will be line-bred and out-crossed. The out-crosses will be made with stud dogs that have proven to cross well on that particular female’s bloodlines. For us to use a stud, he must already be proven in the woods and in the stud pen. He also needs to have top-flight pedigree of top reproducing coondogs.
We are looking for speed, tracking ability, natural stay put tree dogs with intelligence and drive. Our dogs must get the majority of first trees, and have the meat the majority of the time. This is a must. There is a variety of bloodlines on our place coming from well thought out crosses. We will occasionally purchase a female pup when we see a special cross being made around the country. But only females that carry our kennel name will ever have a home here. This is something we are proud of and feel it is something few others can claim.
We really like the Bullet dogs and have made a concerted effort to make Vining Runnin Bullet a cornerstone of our breeding program. Bullet seems to really cross well on Jet 5 and Spanky bloodlines. Our plans are to keep JBS Chief, Jet 5, and Spanky upclose in our dogs for as long as possible. We will also make crosses built around Ranger 5 and Smiley’s Rambo II.
Inclosing, Folks we hunt in the Deep South where it takes a little extra to find and tree a coon. If we tell you one is a coondog, you can believe it can get it done anywhere.
